I have a Dracaena Tree (at least thats what I think it is) and I am wondering if there is any way to prevent the ends of the leafs from getting yellow/dead. someone told me to just cut off the parts that are yellow but it does no good because it just gets yellow again. I have it indoors and It hasnt really grown much and I have had it for a year (i might need to repot it?) anyway any help or tips on this plant would be appreciated. :0)
Dracaena Tree?
Excessive drying out can cause brown tips and edges. Fluoride in the water can lead to tip burn.
Depending on the indoor environment watering should be weekly. Many people over water the plant keeping the soil soggy. Soil should be kept moist but not soggy. The soil should dry out between waterings. Excessive drying out can cause brown tips and edges. When watering use water that is at room temperature. City water should sit to allow chlorinating to evaporate. Fluoride in the water can lead to tip burn. Janet Craig is one variety that will tolerate considerable dryness BUT the plant should be relatively free of fertilizer, this can also lead to tip burn.
Light
Dracaenas will survive low interior light but would prefer bright filtered light. Position dracaenas near or opposite a curtained southern window. JPlants that have been acclimated for use indoors should NOT be placed in direct sun or it will sunburn.
Reply:You may be over watering. Also, do not move your plant from one location to another for this can be quite stressful for the plant. The plant may need iron.

Watering my Dracaena plant?
ok so my Dracaena plant soil is completly dry so It's time to water it and I was wondering if it is ok to water it wit tap water or am I suppose to water it with disstiled water like how I was told I was suppose to put my bamboo in. and also I just got a elephant trunk plant and it said to only water when dry well it's not dry but I would like to know if it is ok to water it with tap water or what?
Watering my Dracaena plant?
Tap water is fine but I always let it get to room temperature first. Water from the tap would be too cold and that would put the plant in shock. I fill a jug or whatever and let it sit over night. Also it's good to keep a spray bottle to mist the leaves.
Reply:Sure, tap water is fine.
Reply:tap water is fine and for the bamboo i have one and never even put distilled water in it and it is growing fine has new shoot on it and all

My corn plant (Dracaena fragrans) has black mold on the stalks & the leaves are dying. Help! Please! :-)?
The plant is 2years old composed of three stalks. Over the past 3 or 4 weeks, it has progressed with the following: leaves turn yellow then dried %26amp; brown. (I trim but more die) small ammt. of black spotty mold on stalks. new growth stunted. leaf stem truning yellow/brown %26amp; mushy. top of stalks look pasty %26amp; is begining to get soft. pulled bark from this area %26amp; noticed clusters of white mold looking stuff.
I live in a aired region, spry leaves with water %26amp; water near stalk base when 1st few inches of soil is dry. Nothing environmentally has changed. Any suggestions of possible causes %26amp; solutions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You

This sounds like mealybug infestation. Mealybugs often look like small pieces of cotton and they ten to congregate where leaves and stems branch. They suck the sap out of plant tissue and weaken a plant leading to yellow foliage and eventually leaf drop. They also secrete a sweet substance called honeydew which can lead to black surface fungal growth called sooty mold.
Prevention - isolate the plant so it can't spread to other plants. Consult your local nursery or Cooperative Extension for a legal insecticide/chemical recommendation (Marathon II is particularly effective against the mealybug.). Ladybugs love these critters but I am assuming this is a house plant so that wouldn't be practical.
Hope you find something to get rid of the mealybug. The Dracaena plant is one of the best indoor plants for removing chemical toxins from the indoor environment.
Reply:let me know if it was really mealy bugs. were you able to git rid of them? Report It
Reply:There are diseases that clog the vascular tissues in the plant's stems. Once they are clogged water and minerals cannot get up the stem to the leaves where they are needed. Unfortunately most all of these diseases there is no chemical cure for. The one thing I might do, rather than just throwing in the towell, is cut everything off that is above where the black is. If you're lucky you will cut off all the diseased pasts and the plant will have enough reserve to come back. If not, you didn't lose anything by trying.

Curing Thrip Infestaion, Dragon Tree (dracaena draco)?
What commercial UK products, or natural methods (ie coffee grinds) are safe to cure a thrip infestation in the soil of a Dragon Tree?? (dracaena draco)
I know these plants are very picky, and can be killed easily by using the wrong method.
Preferably, I'd like to use a natural method.

I used insecticidal soap successfully on mine. I sprayed the plant and killed off the larvae and eggs in the soil.

Gelo at bamboo's (dracaena sanderina) root?
The first log of my bamboo has started becoming yellow, very soft, too flexible, and gradually dies. I looked its root and something like a gelo has covered it, preventing it from taking in water or breathing. I carefully washed it out and most of the gelo left opening the whole root again. What is that and what can I do to prevent it from happening?
Gelo at bamboo's (dracaena sanderina) root?
Use distilled or filtered or spring water and change it once a week. Don't let anyone tell you different it wants lots of light but not direct sunlight. Keep the water about 1" above the root line.
Keep water fresh by changing it every week, and always keep water levels at approximately an inch from the base of the canes. Lucky Bamboo prefers plenty of indirect sunlight and room temperatures at 65-70o. Although opinions differ on feeding, your Lucky Bamboo is a living organism, so it makes sense to occasionally add a mild solution to the water such as African Violet fertilizer. Since growth can be controlled by feeding, small amounts of fertilizer will keep the plant at a manageable size.
*********NOTE**********
Why Are the Leaves Turning Yellow?
Two of the most common factors are 1.) too much direct sunlight; and 2.) too salty or heavily-flouridated tap water. Give your new Lucky Bamboo a thriving start be sure to keep it away from direct sunlight, and water only with filtered or natural spring water.

Care for my Dracaena Warnecki 'Lemon-Lime' plant?
I need to know where to go to read about caring for this plant I recently purchased. There is some kind of damage to many leaves and I don't know if I should cut them off and if they will grow again (for example)... Thanks!
